Masy’s Story

My name is Masy Magali Manuel Alvarez. I was born on June 15, 2000, in the department of Gracias a Dios, Honduras.
My parents are Batestina Alvarez Lainez and Pelocio Manuel Jhonson. My mother died when I was just 6 years old. At that time, my father took care of my brothers and me, but he had another woman, so my sisters and I went to live with my uncle, my mother’s brother. I lived with my uncle for about a year and then I went to live with the niece of my uncle’s wife in another city. In doing this, I left behind my whole family, which included all my sisters and brothers. (It should be noted, that all of these things were affecting me a lot. Because my mom was no longer with me, and my brothers were very far from me, it caused me many problems at school.) In 2009, I moved to La Ceiba, Atlantida. It was very difficult for me to adapt because I did not know Spanish and I was not used to that culture. In the year 2011, I moved again because my tutor had an internship, and I went to live with her sister. I lived with her until the end of the year when my older brother got me a place at the Asociación Hogar Nazareth, an orphanage in Comayagua. He did not want me to continue living with them because there was a risk that something would happen to me or that they would do something to me. After almost two years, I was able to see my sisters again. For the fourth time I moved, but this time it was in a place where they took better care of me and taught me about the word of God. I went to school, and I managed to graduate from high school. I thank God for giving me the great opportunity to have accomplished that goal. In the Asociación Hogar Nazareth, I spent all my adolescence and part of my young adult life.
When I turned 20, I could no longer continue in the Association because I was already of legal age. I had to go live with my older brother and work. During the next two years, I worked in many places. (I worked as a nanny, I worked in a clothing store, I worked cleaning houses, I worked in a dining room, and I worked making tortillas.) During this time, I took the university entrance exam and I could not pass it.

By the grace of God, who never left me alone, I had the opportunity to enter Casa Esperanza. Therefore, I tried again to take the university entrance exam and I was able to pass it. Now I am studying at the public university in Comayagua.

Katherine’s Story

My name is Katherine Nicol Nolasco Cabrera. I was born on November 8, 2003 in the city of Siguatepeque, department of Comayagua, Honduras. My mother’s name is Arselia Nolasco Cabrera and I have one sister and one brother. I am the youngest of the three. I grew up with my mother and my grandmother María Cabrera along with my aunts and uncles. I have many cousins, and my family is very large. We really enjoyed sharing together. It was something that our grandfather, who planted and grew corn, instilled in us. We gathered to enjoy each other’s company and share as a family. I love and remember those times fondly. I did not grow up with my dad, we only saw him once and from then on, we never heard from him. Only my mom took care of us and instructed us.
I successfully completed my primary and secondary schooling. I spent a year in the Luis Alonso Cardona kindergarten and then I studied at the Sevilla Gamero piety school for 6 years, and I completed high school at the Genaro institute Muñoz Hernández. Now I am studying at the Autonomous University of Honduras in the city of Comayagua. Ever since I was little, I enjoyed studying. I always made an effort to get good grades and learn a lot from my teachers. I fondly remember my teachers, since they instilled in me a lot of respect, affection, honesty, kindness and many very important values. I love music; it is one of my favorite hobbies. I play the keyboard and a little guitar, but I like all instruments. I also like to sing, draw portraits of people, and take photographs. I like to study languages, and I know a little English. I really like doing crafts and I consider myself a very creative person.
It was always hard for me to make friends since I was little. I had good friends at school but then they left for another country and I could not speak to them again. In 2015, I started going to the Christian Life Church and there I met some very good people. It was there I began one of my lasting friendships and now I have many more friends who I enjoy spending time with.
I love being kind to others, supporting and serving in whatever way I can. What I am passionate about doing is serving in the church. I am currently in the praise ministry in Comayagua. I previously served in the Christian Life Church in Siguatepeque and I worked a lot with young people and children. One of the things I have enjoyed the most as a young woman is serving God and I will follow Him always. I gave my life to the Lord Jesus when I was 10 years old and at 13 years old I was baptized along with my brother and my friends.
One of the unique experiences that I have lived in my adolescence was my first invitation to a Christian camp for young people. I was able to have fun with others and learn from the word of God. The experiences that I have enjoyed the most in my childhood have been the time shared with my family and my school friends. As much as I have virtues I also have flaws, but I try to improve every day. I am a very simple, honest, and loyal person. I really like to make friends and share with others. I also tend to be very serious and quiet, and a little reserved and fearful. I like to smile a lot and enjoy every day from the good things that exist and for learning from the bad things too.
